Date gone badly, or not?

So last night I went on a date with this guy who has been asking my friend about me for sometime now....He asked me out the other day and then last night I went to his house for dinner, and I feel like it went pretty well....we then went out for a bit with some mutual friends of ours, then abrubtley says "I think Im gunna go home" which would be obviously be an indicator that he obviously isnt into me anymore because he would have stayed if so, but then he hugged me and kissed me on the cheek and said thanks for coming to dinner with me... Any thoughts? I thought it was weird how he really wanted to see me and then just left like that....
