Why is god always testing us?

just think how much god is always testing us to believe in him and keep faith, all the while we know that god will never show us undeniable proof, hence our faith. But just think if you had a friend or family member that acted this way, you'd think he/she was a major a-h0le and may very well hate them. So why does god chose to come across as a being with traits we naturally despise in others . I understand that it would take great faith to believe in someone like that, but it would also take great father to believe in someone like james macy, jim carrey, don lapre, politicians, arnold Schwarzenegger, but that doesn't make it right
